As many of you who already follow me around on Tumblr, Twitter, Smack Jeeves or deviantART may know, I fell and sprained my left wrist back in early July.  Being left handed, this provided some obvious setbacks, but a serious (and continuing) stroke of bad luck placed this particular injury on the same week as a serious understaffing at my place of work and has perpetuated things to this day.

The Story

I work part-time at a Le Creuset outlet store to pay the bills.  Anyone familiar with the Le Creuset brand knows that it’s some of the best cookware out there, and that it’s heavy as hell.  Two years of working there had conditioned me to handle everything just fine, so there weren’t any issues up until this point.

The first week in July, about three days after I tripped in the parking lot at home and landed on my good hand, we very suddenly lost both our store manager as well as another employee for a multitude of reasons.  With half of our staff already on vacation, that left us with three people that week to cover the whole store.

And I had just given myself my first serious injury sustained in my life.

Many close friends came to my rescue with supplies, suggestions and physical therapy links, and since then staffing has improved.  But we’re still understaffed enough that I cannot take more than two days a week off, and the constant strain on my wrists from working shifts alone has sustained the injury for over four months now, as well as added another in my right wrist from over-compensation.

I was offered another job at another company about a month ago, one that offers me part-time benefits, better pay and more manageable hours, and a position with significantly less lifting, and I sacrificed an offer of assistant manager to take it.  Not one day before my hiring, however, the new job’s corporate put a deep freeze on the manager’s payroll and she has been unable to finish hiring me.  She is doing all she can and is confident (as am I, really) that she can get me into the staff, but the when is the unknown.  Projected time is currently January.  After the hell that is retail December.

The Really Important Part

As my husband and I both only work part time to make ends meet, we have no health insurance to speak of; thus I have not seen a doctor for this.  I’m tired of sacrificing my future for this job, and I want to have a professional at least tell me if I’m taking proper care of myself in the meantime, if not help me get my wrists back so that I don’t lose a very important part of my life due to permanent damage.

(On a side note, there are various reasons why we have not finished seeking alternative insurance options such as Medicaid, most of them being the inability to take time off work, but they have been considered and even now may still be pursued.)

I think I’ve found a clinic, and the minimum amount I need for a good visit that would cover all of my bases is $225.  I hate to do this, but any financial help would be appreciated, as we have other extra expenses to consider that prevent us from saving for it immediately (new tires are really important too =__= ).

DONATE

Paypal is preferred, though if you want to help and require other options, just talk to me.  The best I can do is eventually offer a free postcard-size sketch of whatever you want for significant contributions, drawn when my wrists are well again.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration, everyone, and even if you can’t donate, spreading the word would also be an immense help. :) God bless, and have a wonderful Christmas season.
